In March 2026, Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, launched Version 2.0 of the Indian Culture Portal (ICP) at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The upgraded portal serves as a national digital platform designed to provide easy access to India’s vast cultural heritage for scholars, researchers and the general public.
About Version 2.0 of Indian Culture Portal (ICP):
Background: The Portal was originally launched in December 2019 to democratize access to information about India’s traditions, literature, arts and historical heritage.
Key Features: The upgraded portal features a modern architecture with a React-based frontend and Drupal backend, improving speed, scalability and performance. It includes an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chatbot Bharti, integrated with the Bhashini platform to support responses in 22 Indian languages.
Function: The portal functions as a Progressive Web App (PWA), enabling seamless access across devices, and provides immersive experiences such as three dimensional(3D) walkthroughs, 360-degree virtual tours of heritage monuments, and 46 curated cultural categories, including Iconic Battles of India, Folktales of India, and Classical Dances of India.
