World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026 – March 4
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s World Engineering Day (WED) for Sustainable Development, observed annually across the globe on 4 March highlights the vital role of engineering in modern life and its importance in addressing climate change and advancing sustainable development, especially in Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

  • 4th March 2026 marks the 7th observance of the WED.
  • 2026 Theme: “Smart Engineering for Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization.”

Background:
Declaration: In November 2019, UNESCO proclaimed 4 March as WED for Sustainable Development during its 40th General Conference (40 C/64) based on a proposal by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).
First Observance: The first WED for Sustainable Development was observed globally on 4 March 2020.
2026 Event: The main international congress for WED for Sustainable Development 2026 was held from 3–5 March 2026 at the Balai Kartini Convention and Exhibition Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia.
