Union Minister Rajnath Singh Commissioned Advanced Nuclear Submarine ‘INS Taragiri’ in Visakhapatnam, AP
In April 2026, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD) formally commissioned an advanced stealth frigate Indian Naval Ship (INS) Taragiri (F41) into Indian Navy (IN) at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

  • Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan; Admiral Dinesh Kumar (DK) Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), IN; Captain Jagmohan (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), were among those present during the commissioning.

About INS Taragiri:
Developed by: INS Taragiri, the fourth stealth frigate under Project 17A, built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).
Arms and Ammunition: The vessel features a vast range of weapons including Supersonic Surface-to-Surface missiles; Medium-range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM); advanced anti-submarine warfare system; and advanced indigenous Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) systems, among others.
Key Features: 6,670 tonne warship, powered by a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system, offering high-speed and high-endurance capabilities for diverse naval operations.
