Background:
UNESCO Proclamation: In 1999, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed 21 March (first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere) as World Poetry Day during its 30th General Conference in Paris, France.
First Observance: The first World Poetry Day was observed on 21 March 2000.
