Why do people say 'bless you' when someone sneezes?
People say "bless you" after a sneeze because, in earlier times, people held superstition that sneezing could expel soul or allow evil spirits to enter body. During bubonic plague in medieval Europe, sneezing was also seen as early sign of fatal illness, so blessings were offered as protection and goodwill. Over time, this practice evolved into a polite social custom.
