A study published in Nature Communications Earth & Environment said tiny fragments of Earth’s atmosphere have drifted to Moon for billions of years. Travelling along Earth’s magnetic field, these particles settle on the lunar surface, the research said. The findings suggest lunar soil preserves a long-term archive of Earth’s atmosphere and contains resources valuable for future astronauts there.
