Astronomers have confirmed for the first time with direct evidence that a lone, starless planet is drifting through the Milky Way. The planet lies under 10,000 light-years from Earth. Its mass is around 22% that of Jupiter, equivalent to roughly 70 Earth masses. The starless planet was detected using gravitational microlensing.
