The demand for the saffron-coloured gulal has peaked in parts of West Bengal ahead of the results of the state Assembly elections on May 4. Shopkeepers in Kolkata reportedly claimed that the colour has gone out of stock and is being sold in black due to excessive demand. One shopkeeper claimed that 90% of people are demanding only saffron colour.
