A paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said AI poses a severe threat to the online survey research method. Author Sean Westwood said he developed an autonomous synthetic respondent that managed to evade detection 99.8% of the time. The paper urged researchers to use more controlled recruitment approaches, such as address-based sampling or voter files.
