IT Ministry on Tuesday notified amendments to Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, Moneycontrol reported. With the amendments, it brought the synthetically generated information (SGI), including deepfakes, under the regulatory framework. The rules require intermediaries to ensure that AI-generated or altered content is labelled or identified.
