World Wildlife Day 2026 – March 3 
The United Nations (UN’s) World Wildlife Day (WWD) is observed annually on 3rd March to honor and raise awareness about the world’s wild fauna (animals) and flora (plants). It highlights the importance of wildlife conservation and its vital role in sustaining ecosystems.

  • 2026 Theme: “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods”.

Background:
Declaration: On 20th December 2013, during its 68th session, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3rd March as WWD through Resolution 68/205.
First Observance: The first-ever WWD was celebrated globally on March 3, 2014.
Significance: March 3rd was selected to mark the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973.
Implementation: The CITES Secretariat, in collaboration with relevant UN organizations, coordinates and supports the implementation of WWD worldwide.
