Background:
Origin: In 1863, John Gamgee of the Veterinary College of Edinburgh (the United Kingdom, UK) initiated the first World Veterinary Congress.
Establishment : In 1959, the World Veterinary Association (WVA) was established to promote global animal health and welfare.
Launch: In 2000, the WVAintroduced WVD as an annual observance.
Lead Organization: The annual observance is coordinated by the WVA, a global federation committed to advancing veterinary science and practice.
