IBM Launches Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center in Bengaluru to Boost Enterprise AI DevelopmentIn March 2026, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) launched its first Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center at the India Systems Development Lab (ISDL) campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The centre aims to strengthen India’s position as a global hub for advanced infrastructure engineering and Artificial Intelligence (AI) development.Objective of the Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center: The newly launched centre is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of enterprise-grade AI systems by integrating infrastructure technologies, hybrid cloud capabilities and AI solutions under one platform.Collaboration: The Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center functions as a collaborative engineering hub. NITI Aayog, UNICEF India Sign SoI to Bolster Nutrition & Health Outcomes in Aspirational Districts and BlocksIn March 2026, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) India to strengthen nutrition and health outcomes in Aspirational districts and blocks.The agreement was signed by Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary and Mission Director, Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme, NITI Aayog and Arjan de Wagt, Deputy Representative of UNICEF India.Key Details of SoI:Objectives: The partnership aims to improve maternal and child nutrition in underserved areas while strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration and implementation of nutrition and health interventions at the block level.Focus Areas: Strengthening Anganwadi infrastructure, improving nutrition literacy, enhancing uptake of ICDS services and capacity-building of frontline workers.Key Role: Through IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) platform, UNICEF India will offer technical assistance and support engagement with businesses, public sector enterprises and industry partners to mobilize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investment into nutrition-focused initiatives.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Lays Foundation Stone for India’s First Riverine Lighthouses in Guwahati, AssamOn March 5 2026, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), laid the foundation stones for four riverine lighthouses along the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Assam, marking the first lighthouse infrastructure on an inland waterway in India, with a total project outlay of approximately Rs 84 crore.The ceremony was held at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, Assam, and was jointly organised by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under the aegis of MoPSW.About Brahmaputra River Lighthouses Project:Sites: Four river lighthouses will be developed at Bogibeel (Dibrugarh district, Assam), Pandu (Kamrup Metro district, Assam), Silghat (Nagaon district, Assam), and Biswanath Ghat (Biswanath district, Assam) along the Brahmaputra on National Waterway-2 (NW-2).Specifications: Each lighthouse will be 20 metres (m) high with a geographical range of 14 nautical miles and a luminous range of 8–10 nautical miles, powered entirely by solar energy.Tourism: Each site will include facilities such as a museum, amphitheatre, cafeteria, children’s play area, souvenir shop, and landscaped public spaces to promote tourism.

CCI Approves Central Bank of India’s Stake Hike in Generali Insurance Joint VenturesOn March 3 2026, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), approved the Central Bank of India (CBI) to acquire additional equity in Generali Central Insurance Company Limited (GCICL) and Generali Central Life Insurance Company Limited (GCLICL), allowing it to increase its shareholding to 26% in both joint ventures (JVs).Key Details of Acquisitions:Stake: The CBI will acquire an additional 1.09% stake in GCICL and 0.82% in GCLICL, raising its shareholding to 26% in both entities from 24.91% and 25.18%, respectively.Impact: The 26 % stake enhances the bank’s voting power and governance, strengthens bancassurance integration, allows insurance cross-selling through its network, and supports revenue diversification beyond traditional banking.Background: The additional stakes were earlier held by Future Corporate Resources Private Limited (FCRPL), a Future Group entity undergoing insolvency proceedings, and were acquired by CBI after it emerged as the successful bidder following a decision by the Committee of Creditors (CoC).

German DEG & Citi Provide USD 76 Million Funding to Shriram FinanceIn March 2026, German development finance institution DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) and Citibank N.A. (Citi) jointly granted USD 76 million (nearly Rs 630 crore) co-financing lending facility to Shriram Finance Limited (SFL), one of India’s largest Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), to support financial inclusion and sustainable mobility in India.This marks the 2nd such collaboration between the two co-financing partners after the successful transaction supporting CreditAccess Grameen in 2024.Key Details of Funding:Funding Structure: The funding has been arranged through External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs), under which DEG has extended a USD 46 million (EUR 40 million) loan, while Citigroup (Citi) has provided a Rs 260 crore loan to Shriram Finance.Citi also acted as the Lead Arranger and Coordinator for the transaction.Target Areas: The proceeds from DEG  will be used towards financing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), women borrowers, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and customers in underserved areas, enabling access to formal credit through SFL’s networks across India.
